Experience
I currently am a Graduate student studying social work specializing in working with adolescents. In my current internship I am an academic and mental health counselor at a High School in Wilmington, Delaware. In this role I am able to work collaboratively with students to identify and overcome barriers to their academic success. Strategies include but are not limited to tutoring, organization, self advocacy and time management. I work with students with learning disabilities and find that my strategies help aid in their success. These are some of the skills I would be applying to my role as a tutor. I have extensive experience in writing as I have done research papers in my undergraduate career and my graduate studies are writing intensive. I have excelled in my writing career and have received recognition from professors for these skills. My knowledge in writing is a strong skill set I bring to tutoring. My skills could be applied to (but is not limited to) college applications, SAT prep, research papers, and creative writing for your student. I have a strong background in Spanish and have completed four semesters of College level Spanish courses. My experience with Psychology and social work has provided me with knowledge around development and biology. I have completed an AP Psychology course earning a 5 during my time in high school. I also enjoy tutoring for history and algebra. As a tutor I take a collaborative approach, knowing that the student is an expert in their own learning style. I would assess this learning style and apply it to the student's learning. I also have skills in leadership development as I have lead a leadership development group in a summer camp for risining 9th and 10th graders. I have experience playing the piano, clarinet, and trombone and could be useful for beginning or intermediate levels. I also can help students practice self care. I am a LGBTQA ally.
