Math is a source of stress and contention for so many students, and while the teachers and professors that I've had in the past were brilliant and knowledgeable, far too many of them lacked what is even more important than a pure grasp of the subject matter: the ability to teach it to people who didn't see it the way they did. Everyone is a little different in how they perceive the world, rise to challenges, and sort through information given to them. I have recognized the importance of appreciating differences of learning styles. I have known extremely smart people who were frustrated at the math courses they took. They were all essentially very good students, but the material was just not being presented to them in the right way. I have developed this skill of explaining the same material in many different ways, and I have steadily seen more and more "eureka!" moments from my students. I have an MS in Mathematics, am a MENSA member, and I have over 3 years of experience as an actuary. When I'm on my own time, I enjoy playing music, reading, or working out.
